S&P Select Industry Indices

Overview Index News
Overview

S&P Select Industry Indices are designed to measure the performance of a narrow Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS®) sub-industry which is the most detailed level of industry definition. These indices offer the purest representation of a specific industry.

Index constituents exhibit the following characteristics:
  • Underlying Indices – S&P Total Market Index
  • Weighting – Attribute weighted: 90th percentile of market capitalization of sub-industry
  • Public Float – At least US$ 500 million
  • Membership – Reviewed annually in December
Members may be deleted during the December rebalance if calendar-year dividends did not increase from the previous year, or intra-year if the stock is removed from the underlying S&P Composite 1500.

Index Governance and Policy
This index is maintained by the S&P Index Committee, whose members include Standard & Poor's economists and index analysts. It follows a set of published guidelines and policies that provide the transparent methodologies used to maintain the index.

The Global Industry Classification Standard is an industry classification system developed and maintained jointly by Standard & Poor’s and Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI).
