S&P Total Market Index
S&P Total Market Index is designed to represent the U.S. stock market. As a combination of the S&P 500 and the S&P Completion Index, it offers broad exposure to large, mid, small, and micro cap companies. Since the two underlying indices follow the same construction guidelines and free float methodology, they seamlessly integrate and move in sync without overlapping constituents. S&P Total Market Index includes all common equities listed on the NYSE (including NYSE Arca), the NYSE Alternext, the NASDAQ Global Select Market, the NASDAQ Global Market and the NASDAQ Capital Market.
Index constituents exhibit the following characteristics:
- Underlying Indices – S&P 500, S&P Completion Index
- Market Coverage – Over 97% of the U.S. equities market
- Weighting – Market capitalization
Index Governance and PolicyThis index is maintained by the S&P Index Committee, whose members include Standard & Poor's economists and index analysts. It follows a set of published guidelines and policies that provide the transparent methodologies used to maintain the index.
