*The opening index value (9:31 am) which is available on standardandpoors.com reflects the 500 securities at that time and in the case of the stocks which have not yet opened (as all stocks do not open up simultaneously) the previous day's closing price for any stock that has not opened. Thereafter, the index value may reflect some stocks which have yet to open, and other stocks that are trading.
Opening settlement is calculated using ONLY the opening prices (which occur at various time sequences) of ALL 500 stocks and may occur at any point during the day and uses a different indentifier (for instance on Bloomberg the 500 identifier for settlement is SPXSET).
Open SET may be higher than the high, lower than the low and different from the open, as the Open SET is a special calculation with a specific set of parameters, time is not one of them. The OHLC are continuous calculations and the Open SET waits until ALL 500 stocks are open.
**S&P 500 Industrials Sector is part of the Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS®).
***S&P 500 Industrials Composite is a continuation of the Industrials that have been published by Standard & Poor's for over 40 years, and is provided in recognition of the fact that it is used by analysts and has a long history. It is not the same as the GICS® Industrials Sector.
