GICS Direct provides the investment community with access to a comprehensive and up-to-date database of global companies classified with the GICS structure and methodology. Each company is first classified in one of the 10 sectors, 67 industries, and 24 industry groups, which are then categorized into 147 GICS sub-industries.
GICS Direct, a joint product from Standard & Poor’s and MSCI Barra, provides more than 33,500 company classifications (approximately 37,500 securities) worldwide in accordance with Standard & Poor’s and MSCI Barra's proprietary Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS®).

A growing database of more than 33,500 company classifications (37,500 securities), representing approximately 97% of the world’s total market capitalization on more than 90 countries. Company classifications for both developed and emerging markets help facilitate global sector-based analysis.
Daily monitoring for corporate actions that can affect a company’s classification, and annual monitoring for changes in business activity.
Use of both quantitative and qualitative measures to ensure companies are appropriately classified.
Key data items include: Company name and security tags, GICS classification codes,CUSIP (separate license required), SEDOL, ISIN and/or ticker for U.S. and Canadian securities, SEDOL and/or ISIN for rest-of-world securities, GVKey, Country codes.
Distribution via file transfer protocol (FTP) and select third-party vendors on a daily and monthly basis with ASCII or XML formats available.
