S&P Global 1200


Introduced in 1997, S&P Global 1200 represents the opportunity set of investable equities around the globe. Constructed with a fixed number of constituents, this global index is designed as a highly liquid and tradable index whose total market capitalization is large enough to approximate the market segment it is capturing while keeping the number of stocks at a minimum.

Index constituents exhibit the following characteristics:
  • Underlying Indices – Seven regional and country headline indices
    • S&P 500 (United States) in US$
    • S&P Europe 350 (Europe) in US$ and Euro
    • S&P/TOPIX 150 (Japan) in US$ and Yen
    • S&P/TSX 60 (Canada) in US$ and CAN$
    • S&P/ASX All Australian 50 (Australia) in US$ and AUS$
    • S&P Asia 50 (Hong Kong, Korea, Taiwan Singapore) in US$
    • S&P Latin America 40 (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico) in US$
  • Market Coverage – Approximately 70% across 29 local markets
  • Weighting – Market capitalization
  • Public Float – Adjusted to regional specifications
  • Index Calculation – Real-time pricing 22 hours a day
  • Currency – US$, priced using real-time exchange rates; Local currencies as well
Index Governance and Policy
This index is maintained by Index Committees, whose members include Standard & Poor's economists and index analysts as well as representatives of affiliated regional exchanges. They follow a set of published guidelines and policies that provide the transparent methodologies used to maintain the indices.
