S&P Managed Futures Index (MFI) offers investors a benchmark that is designed to be representative of investments in managed futures hedge funds/programs. Specifically, the index aims to track systematic managers employing mainly technical trend-following and pattern-recognition trading methodologies. This index includes all the Managed Futures funds represented in the flagship S&P Hedge Fund Index, as well as additional Managed Futures programs needed to create a broader, more representative single strategy index.
Index Governance and Policy
This index is maintained by the S&P MFI Committee. It stipulates that an independent, rigorous, and standardized due diligence be conducted on all index candidates. Members of the S&P MFI Committee participate in the formal review of the hedge funds which involves an interview with the hedge fund manager regarding the fund’s style purity, trading strategy and practices, infrastructure, and operations. An outside consulting firm is engaged to perform these analyses.
