S&P Select Industry Indices are designed to measure the performance of a narrow Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS®) sub-industry which is the most detailed level of industry definition. These indices offer the purest representation of a specific industry.
Index constituents exhibit the following characteristics:
Underlying Indices – S&P Total Market Index
Weighting – Attribute weighted: 90th percentile of market capitalization of sub-industry
Public Float – At least US$ 500 million
Membership – Reviewed quarterly March, June, September and December
Index Governance and Policy
This index is maintained by the S&P Index Committee, whose members include Standard & Poor's economists and index analysts. It follows a set of published guidelines and policies that provide the transparent methodologies used to maintain the index.
