Standard & Poor's GICS DirectSM
GICS Direct is a joint product from Standard & Poor's and MSCI Barra. Investors,
research specialists and product developers worldwide have adopted the
Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS®) methodology. It enables
effective, efficient portfolio analysis and reporting by providing a comprehensive
and timely database of companies classified in accordance with the GICS
methodology. Sell-side research and reporting can also be organized around the
GICS structure. GICS was developed to meet the global financial community's
need for one complete, consistent set of global sector and industry definitions.
The GICS structure consists of a hierarchy of sectors, industry groups, industries
and sub-industries and covers a broad universe of companies from both
developed and emerging markets. To ensure that a company's classification is accurate, corporate actions are monitored daily and changes in
business activity are monitored annually, in addition to factoring in both quantitative and qualitative metrics into the classification process.
