Description Course Overview
Standard & Poor's two-day Investigative Credit Analysis course provides you with guidelines for addressing topics that often challenge credit analysts, especially those arising from risk related to the presentation of financial and non-financial information, including issues involving corporate governance, accounting policies, and the need to adjust financial statements in certain instances for analytical purposes. This course will also offer you insights into the assessment of information risk involving corporate culture, varying accounting practices, and, in keeping with Standard & Poor's rating methodology, the treatment of off-balance sheet obligations that can have a significant impact on a company's reported financial condition – as well as its ongoing liquidity and financial flexibility.

Course Objectives
  • To challenge participants' existing credit skills and experience;
  • To provide a framework for the analysis of more complex risk-related issues, including:
    o Assessing management and corporate governance;
    o Information risk and accounting, and disclosure issues;
    o Debt securities documentation analysis; and
    o Hybrid capital;
  • To provide guidance on Standard & Poor's methodology for addressing such issues; and
  • To facilitate access to senior Standard & Poor’s specialists to gain additional understanding and to ensure an up-to-date view.
Who Should Attend:
This course is designed for credit analysts and other financial professionals who wish to increase their understanding of the techniques for identifying financial and non-financial warning signs in corporate reporting. This course will review the history and motivations for reporting inaccuracies, and examine warning flags in corporate governance, accounting policies and financial statements.
