Standard & Poor's Research Insight® Available Data Sets
Choose the information you need—Research Insight offers add-on data sets to support your specific research style.

Users can choose from two geographic-based data sets: Compustat North America and Compustat Global.

Compustat North America

  • Up to 10 years of daily and 20 years of monthly price history on active and inactive companies
  • Industry-Specific data on five major sectors: Homebuilding, Retail, Airlines, Oil & Gas and Healthcare
  • GICS Aggregate data, providing historical unrestated quarterly data, covering 99% of the U.S. market cap, aggregating statement items for sector and peer analysis
  • Hard to find data items covering: Hedge Fund/Derivatives, Pension and Postretirement, Options, Asset Allocations, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance items and more

    Compustat Global

  • Up to 20 years of monthly price history on active and inactive companies
  • Interim historical coverage including semiannual data items for new International Financial Reporting Standard (IFRS) items, Cash Flow, Amortization of Intangibles, Capital Surplus, Investment Income and more
  • Currency translation with cross-translation tables for more than 180 countries
  • International Quality Ranking (IQR) scoring model, using Standard & Poor's proprietary calculations based on historical dividends, earnings data and sales data

    Specialty Data Sets
    Compustat BackDataProvides company data for periods prior to those in the current database. Annual data is from 1950 to the current 20-year period. Quarterly data is from 1962 to the current 48-quarter period. Compustat Business Information data is from 1986 to the current 7-year period.

    Compustat Point-in-TimeOffers a snapshot of what the marketplace knew at a specific month in time. Monthly U.S. company data is from 1987 forward. Monthly Canadian company data is from 1991 forward.

    Insider Trading and Institutional Ownership Data Insider Trading data is provided by Washington Services Association (WSA) and features Top Ten Buys and Top Ten Sells, Summary data, Open market transactions of 100 or more shares, 13 months of history, issue-level data, data in actual numbers, amended data and adjustments for stock splits.

    Institutional Ownership data is provided by Computershare Analytics, N.A., Inc. and features Top Ten Buys, Top Ten Sells, Top Ten Changes, Top Ten Holders, Aggregate data, four quarters of data stored as monthly items and issue-level data.

    MSCI Equity Indices Compustat provides index-level data for 3800 MSCI Equity Indices, which are widely used in the global equity markets. These benchmark indices serve as performance gauges and research tools. By integrating MSCI index level data into the Compustat database and platforms, users will be able to follow equity market performance in developed and emerging markets, but will not have to use their own technical resources to bring the data into their templates and models.

    Portfolio IQ Assembles valuation and risk assessments of individual securities, or it can be used to aggregate data to create similar assessments of portfolios. By combining value-added company data with portfolio analysis, Portfolio IQ creates task-specific models that assist in understanding portfolios and investments and in building more efficient investment strategies.

    Research Quarterly PDE Contains companies that have been removed from the active Price, Dividends and Earnings database due to acquisitions and mergers, bankruptcy, leveraged buyout or because they have become private companies (or because they have moved to a private company status).

    Russell Index Constituents Provides the monthly history of constituent markings, for the most 15 years, for both active and inactive domestic companies.

    Standard & Poor's BacktesterTM Provides the ability to simulate complex portfolio strategies quickly and reliably against history. Backtester streamlines the portfolio simulation process by providing the tools and analytical capabilities needed to efficiently utilize complex datasets and build expressions.

    Thomson First Call® The First Call database, provided by Thomson Financial, contains daily consensus earnings and cash flow estimates, analysts' recommendations, and related investment information from hundreds of contributing firms. Estimates are provided for two quarters and two fiscal years of consensus estimate data, expected report dates, consensus recommendations, future growth rates, surprise data, operating actual earnings and cash flow data, and P/E, as well as Price to Cash Flow ratios. The First Call database also contains estimate consensus trends and estimate revision momentum data to help compare recent performance to expected performance. This database is available with a separate subscription.

    Thomson I/B/E/S® DataThe Institutional Brokers Estimate System (I/B/E/S), provided by Thomson Financial, is a database of earnings expectations obtained from more than 2,500 security analysts. The consensus earnings estimates for more than 3,000 companies are available with a separate subscription agreement.
