A managing director in Corporate and Government Ratings Practice of Standard & Poor's. As Analytical Leader for the U.S. Utilities,Energy and Project Finance Ratings group, Richard is engaged in the analysis,
relationship and communication of the top tier utility and merchant energy credits.
He is a principal spokesperson for Standard & Poor's in these sectors, and leads the
department's publishing efforts by contributing and coordinating key analytical
commentaries, and ensuring appropriate media and investor communication. For the nine years prior to this current role, Richard was responsible for managing several Standard & Poor's analysts and maintaining the quality of ratings in
the utility sector. Richard holds a B.A. in history from Swarthmore College, and an M.I.A. from
the Columbia University School of International Affairs.
John Whitlock
A managing director in Standard & Poor’s Corporate and Government Ratings division and heads the New York-based natural gas pipeline
and midstream energy sectors, which encompasses over 50 rated entities with an
aggregate of over $100 billion in rated debt. As a team leader in the U.S. Utilities
and Energy group, he manages a team of analysts covering natural gas pipelines,
midstream energy gathering and processing, and integrated electric and gas utilities.
His responsibilities include maintaining the quality of the ratings, attending
meetings with company management and investors, chairing rating committees, and
contributing to Standard & Poor’s written publications.
Previously, John had managerial oversight for the oil and gas sector. Prior to
becoming a team leader in 2000, John had primary analytic responsibility for a
number of energy and utility issuers including El Paso Corp., FPL Group, DTE
Energy, CMS Energy and Progress Energy.
John joined Standard and Poor’s utility rating team in 1998. John holds an M.B.A. in finance from the University of Bridgeport and a B.S. in finance and management from Sacred Heart University.
