S&P North American Technology Indices

Acquired from Goldman Sachs Group in February, 2007, the S&P North American Technology indices provide investors with equity benchmarks for U.S. traded technology-related securities. The S&P North American Technology Index is the technology sub-index of the S&P North American Sector Indices. The S&P NA Tech Sector sub-indices are more narrowly industry based indices consisting of twelve or more stocks selected from the universe of stocks in the S&P NA Tech Sector Index. The S&P Equity Index Committee may select stocks for inclusion in one of the sub-indices based on criteria considered relevant to the categorization of each stock. Each sub-index is weighted according to a modified-capitalization weighting methodology, the purpose which is to limit the weight of stocks that would otherwise dominate the performance of the index but still retain the attractive features of a cap-weighted index.

Index Eligible Constituents at each rebalancing exhibit the following characteristics:

  • Market Capitalization-At least US$ 1.3 billion for the S&P North American Technology Sector
  • Liquidity Ratio-At least 30%
  • Public Float-At least 20%
  • Listed- NYSE, AMEX or NASDAQ
  • Sector Classification-Information Technology Sector or Internet Retail Sub-Industry of GICS®
  • Sub-index Criteria-S&P North American Technology Sector stocks are eligible for inclusion in one of S&P North American Technology Sector sub-indices
  • Eligible Companies-Member of the S&P Total Market Index or the S&P/TSX Composite Index

Index Governance and Policy
The S&P Equity Industry Index Committee maintains the S&P North American Technology Indices. All members are full-time professional members of Standard & Poor’s staff. At each meeting, the committee reviews pending corporate actions that may affect index constituents, statistics comparing the composition of the indices to the market, companies that are being considered as candidates for addition to an index, and any significant market events.
