S&P 500 50th Anniversary
The S&P 500, frequently cited in news and publications, has been in the forefront of index strategies and innovations since its inception in 1957. Investment professionals around the world rely on the S&P 500 in various ways. Pension plans use the index for direct investment. Investment banks use the index as the basis for cost-efficient hedges to support products. Consultants and financial advisors use the index to conduct return analysis that measures risk/reward profile. And, researchers and strategists use the index for historical, constituent-level attribution analysis.
As part of the celebration of the S&P 500’s 50th anniversary, academics, institutional investors and financial product developers will share their thoughts on the continuing relevance and importance of the index. These essays will be compiled and published in a commemorative book for release in June 2007 in conjunction with a symposium that will bring together investment professionals to discuss the index and its impact on the investing community. Topics of the book will include:
- S&P 500 History and Operation
- Index Theory and Innovations
- Investment Products for Individuals and Institutions
Articles will be posted over time. Visit this site for periodic updates.
